LEARNING OUTCOME 2 FOR ENG 110:

Be able to integrate their ideas with those of others using summary, paraphrase, quotation, analysis, and synthesis of relevant sources.

I think that the use of other sources in ones paper allows to better represent the points that are trying to be made. Once I annotate a source, I will try to figure out how I can integrate those key points of the text into my paper. I think over the course of this semester, I have gotten much better at inserting quotes into a sentence. Rather than quoting by using “the author says”, I have broadened my word choice and learned new words that present the quote in a more creative way, such as “the author utters, pronounces, etc”. I have also learned how to better analyze quotes from sources this semester. In my papers, after I put in a quote, I tried to explain deeper what the author was trying to portray and the implications of that. Explaining those quotes further gave my papers the ability to have my ‘I say’ voice while also dissecting what the author had to say. Another way I have learned to integrate my ideas this semester was with the Barclay’s paragraphs. I think I improved on how I approached to writing these and they overall helped me synthesize and connect sources better.
